Distracted Flying – Aviation Safety


q A common reason for an unintentional gear-up landing is being distracted at a crucial time, typically thanks to traffic in the pattern, ATC or a passenger. One of the cures for this is to never assume the gear is down and religiously check its position at regular intervals: abeam the numbers on downwind, when on base and at 500 feet on final.

Ultimately, flying is a series of distractions, one after another. Along the way, someone still has to fly the airplane.
