Season update, July through October 2024: Schedule for The Grimes Flying Lab Museum is April – October months with hours of 10am- 1pm(open only on Saturdays / call for special appointments)Here is the updated event  list that the Grimes Flying Lab Beech 18 will be attending :  (weather permitting /subject to change ) July 4th – Bryan , Ohio Pancake Fly In July 6th- Grimes Field Family Day (11-dusk – actives , food trucks ) – aircraft will fly before fireworks at dusk July 13/14- Barnstorming  carnival event at Springfield , Ohio airport August 17-18- Props and Pistons Festival Akron , Ohio (August  17- MERFI is at Grimes Field – the museum will be open /aircraft will not be there ) August 24- Hops in the Hangar 4-9pm at Bulter County Warbird Museum ( not officially confirmed yet ) August 31- Waynesville , Ohio September 1- Ring of Fire event at Indian Lake September 21- Bucyrus , Ohio Fly In September 28- Zanesville , Ohio EAA Chapter Event October – TBD Urbana High School Military Appreciation Night Flyover About Grimes Flying Lab Museum:Located at Grimes Field in Urbana, the “lab” is a Beech 18 that served the U.S. Air Forces as a C-45 and was modified to a C-45H as a test bed for aircraft nighttime lighting systems. The aircraft was a valuable tool for engineers who worked for Warren G. Grimes – the father of aircraft lighting – before and during World War II to advance developments for safer flight at night. Grimes produced his first airplane lights in his garage in 1933 and by World War II his company had grown to produce lighting for military aviation. Besides memorabilia from Grimes’ life and Grimes Manufacturing Co., historical and modern aircraft lighting products are displayed.Grimes Flying Lab Foundation Grimes Flying Lab Foundation is a a 501(c)(3) organization.
