QantasLink is expanding its domestic network with two new routes from Perth to Newcastle and Hobart, starting in September 2025.
These flights will enhance connectivity for Western Australia’s travelers and provide vital support for the region’s resource sector.
The new services will offer more travel options for both business and leisure passengers, boosting tourism and economic growth.
Direct Flights to Newcastle and Hobart
QantasLink will be the only airline offering direct flights between Perth and Newcastle. Operating three times a week, these flights will provide over 45,000 seats annually.
This new route is designed to support Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) workers and mining customers by offering a convenient, non-stop service to Western Australia.
Additionally, QantasLink will reinstate direct flights between Perth and Hobart for the first time since 2023. Operating three times weekly for most of the year, this route will add 32,000 seats annually.
Both routes will strengthen Perth’s role as a key hub, connecting travelers to Qantas’ international destinations, including London, Paris, and seasonal flights to Rome, with just one stop.

Aircraft and Booking Details
The new routes will be serviced by QantasLink’s Airbus A319 aircraft, which feature 150 economy seats. These planes are already used for intra-WA flights, particularly for the resources sector, ensuring reliability and comfort for passengers.
Travelers can book these flights starting today on the Qantas website. Launch fares begin at $299 one-way for both Perth-Newcastle and Perth-Hobart routes.
The sale runs until 11:59 pm AEST on June 2, 2025, or until sold out.
Supporting Western Australia’s Economy
Rachel Yangoyan, CEO of QantasLink, expressed enthusiasm for the new routes. “We’re proud to support Western Australia’s resource and tourism sectors with these new connections.”
“The direct Perth-Newcastle and Perth-Hobart services will boost inbound tourism and provide better travel options for resource sector workers across Australia,” she said.

Kate Holsgrove, Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer at Perth Airport, concurred with the sentiment. “These new routes reflect Qantas Group’s commitment to Western Australia and Perth Airport as Australia’s western gateway.”
“By working with Qantas, Newcastle Airport, Destination NSW, Hobart Airport, Tourism Tasmania, and Tourism WA, we’re enhancing aviation links that drive tourism, trade, and economic development.”
“These services will make travel easier for business and leisure passengers while encouraging more visitors from New South Wales and Tasmania to explore WA. They also offer Western Australians a direct path to discover Tasmania and northern NSW.”
A Boost for Tourism and Connectivity
The new routes will promote tourism by making it easier for travelers to visit Western Australia’s attractions. They also provide Western Australians with direct access to Newcastle’s vibrant culture and Tasmania’s natural beauty.
With these additions, QantasLink continues to strengthen its domestic network, fostering economic and tourism growth across Australia.
