Starting May 7th, 2025, all travelers aged 18 and over flying within the United States – whether on commercial airlines or private jets – will need to present a REAL ID-compliant form of identification to board their flight.
This change, mandated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), is part of a long-anticipated move to standardize secure ID requirements across all U.S. states and territories. This applies to private jet passengers as well. If it is not provided you will not be able to board your charter flight.
What Is the REAL ID?

The REAL ID Act was passed in 2005 as a post-9/11 security measure, requiring stricter standards for issuing state IDs and driver’s licenses. To be considered REAL ID-compliant, a state-issued license must meet specific federal criteria, including tamper-proof features and verified personal documentation.
How to tell if your license is compliant? Look for a star icon (gold, black, or outlined, depending on the state) in the top corner of your ID.
Accepted Forms of ID for Domestic U.S. Travel
To board a U.S. domestic flight – including a Victor-chartered private flight – you must present one of the following:
- A REAL ID-compliant driver’s license
- A U.S. passport or passport card
- A DHS trusted traveler card (e.g., Global Entry)
- A foreign government-issued passport
- A military ID or permanent resident card
- An enhanced driver’s license (available in select states like NY, MI, MN, VT, and WA)

What Does This Mean for Private Jet Travelers?

Victor clients enjoy the convenience of flying through private terminals and FBOs – but TSA identification rules still apply. This means that your ID will be checked prior to departure, regardless of the airport or terminal you’re using.
If your ID isn’t compliant and you’re flying domestically without a passport or other valid alternative, you will not be permitted to board your flight.
Planning Ahead for Seamless Travel
To ensure a smooth experience:
- Check your ID now to confirm it’s REAL ID-compliant
- If it’s not, schedule an appointment with your DMV to upgrade
